BUCS Sprint gets an update. But OUTriC race well, as usual

BUCS Sprint was held at Parc Bryn Bach, an idyllic park in Wales. This change in venue meant that, for the first time ever, there was a lake swim! The race was separated into 5 waves, 2 for women and 3 for men, for a mass start in the lake. After that, there were multiple laps of a technical and rolling bike course - those with TT bikes found them little benefit here! Then there were 2 beautiful laps of the lake to finish off the race.

Joe Bowness was on a mission today, aiming to finally achieve his Blue after just missing out in BUCS Standard. Unfortunately for him, he put an attainable swim time and thus was placed in the middle rather than the 'elite' wave. This meant that he was racing on his own for almost the entire race! But it didn't matter in the end - Joe came 17th and thus achieved Full Blue standard!

In the men's elite wave, a battle was on between Jasper Hajonides van der Meulen and John Gardner. In the end, Jasper won, coming a very respectable 24th. John wasn't far behind at all, coming 26th and just 5 seconds slower than Jasper.

In the women's race, Laura John (despite feeling ill) came 12th overall. She already had achieved Full Blue standard at BUCS standard but this was good enough to achieve it again. Charlotte Kirk raced well to come 34th. Injury and illness plagued other Oxford women but Emma Rowland raced strongly to come 3rd highest Oxford athlete.
