OUTriC competes multiple times a year. Our main races are Varsity and BUCS. See below to find out more information. If you want to view past results and records, visit History & Results.

Varsity matches are annual races held against Cambridge. OUTriC has two Varsity matches:

  • Varsity Duathlon in Hilary Term (normally early March). Varsity Duathlon is a 5km run, followed by a 20km bike, followed by another 5km run.

  • Varsity Triathlon in Trinity Term (usually early May). Varsity Triathlon is a 750m open water (lake) swim, followed by a 20km bike, followed by a 5km run.

In each Varsity match, the Blues team is the made up of the first 3 finishers from OUTriC. The Seconds team is composed of the next 3 finishers. The Mob Match is made up of the rest of the field, with the number of scorers for each team being equal to the size of the smallest team. The victorious team is the team with the lowest combined time.

BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) races are competitions against all Universities in the country. There are three BUCS races per year:

  • BUCS Duathlon takes place in Michaelmas Term (mid-November). It is composed of a 3km run, followed by a 15km bike, followed by another 3km run.

  • BUCS Sprint Triathlon takes place in Trinity Term (early June). It is composed of a 750m open water swim, followed by a 25km bike, followed by a 5km run.

  • BUCS Standard Triathlon takes place in Trinity Term (late May). It is composed of a 1.5km open water swim followed by a 40km bike followed by a 10km run.

Other events

In addition to Varsity and BUCS, the club holds its own Novice Aquathlon in October and Cupper's (inter-collegiate) Aquathlon in June. If there is sufficient interest, we organise club contingents to races such as Titan Brecon Middle Distance Triathlon or Cardiff Triathlon.

Members often also take part in races such as cross-country/cycling/swimming Cuppers and Varsity matches, Teddy Hall relays, Parkruns and other local events, so if you're interested in racing, post on our Facebook group and you'll likely find some company.
